Algebra I Back to School Prep

​

After working with many students during twelve years of teaching plus an additional eighteen years of tutoring in HP, not to mention that all three of my children took the HP Algebra I in recent years, I’ve discovered a few pre-algebra gaps that I think are critical.  Having a firm foundation will make algebra a more positive experience and the results typically show up in the form of more mathematical confidence, and in turn, higher grades.  As I tell my students, algebra is not going away.  Your child will be using these skills for many other math classes they take in the years to come. 

Making the transition from Middle School math to Algebra can cause much anxiety not only for the student, but for the parents as well. For the students going into 9th grade, this anxiety can be two-fold as they are dealing with new math concepts and the unknown of being a high school freshman. This course is also suitable for anyone taking 8th Grade Algebra.

My goal is to fill those algebra gaps and solidify important information BEFORE school starts.  You don’t want to discover these gaps six weeks into the course when a student might be under water.

• Manipulating equations 

• Solidifying slope 

• Number Sense  

• Radical Introduction

• Exponents

• Graphing concepts

• Integer review
