Back to School Prep
Honors/TAG Pre-calculus at Highland Park is a very challenging class that creates a struggle for many students. After tutoring for 20 years in HP and all three of my children taking the HP PreCal course, I’ve developed a prep class that should better prepare any incoming PreCal student. My daughter recently took PreCal and I strongly believe that a “warm-up” class gave her a needed head start to better deal with the challenges of the course, not to mention provide vital mathematical confidence entering the new school year.
There are numerous critical fundamentals that can be taught before you take Honors/TAG PreCal, along with a few important easily memorized concepts, that can positively change the trajectory of the PreCal experience. Therefore, I have written up a formal review of the HP PreCal class that will review the most vital topics which I feel are essential to put a student in position to understand a significant portion of the material. Some of the topics will be a review from the past years of math to strengthen their core, but most of the material will be completely new and a gateway to their success.
The Honors/TAG Pre-Cal Prep Class focus:
The six basic trigonometric functions and related important identity proofs
The trigonometric Unit Circle
Applications of trigonometry
Functions, graphs of functions, and corresponding analysis.
Word problems related to functional analysis
Higher order polynomials and corresponding applications
Exponential functions and logarithms
