After 12 years of classroom teaching and 19 years of tutoring in Highland Park, I’ve identified several key algebra gaps that can significantly impact a student’s success in Hon/Tag Algebra II. A solid foundation not only makes the hon/Tag Algebra II experience more manageable, but also builds confidence and often leads to higher grades. In my experience, even students who performed well in Algebra I and Geometry can struggle with the increased complexity of Hon/Tag Algebra II. This prep course is designed to support Honors/TAG Algebra II students only.
By reviewing essential concepts and previewing critical Hon/Tag Algebra II topics before the school year begins, students gain a valuable head start. Many students who have taken this course have shared that it helped them feel more confident and better prepared going into the year.
What many don’t realize is just how challenging the Hon/Tag Algebra II course can be. Honors/TAG Algebra II, in particular, is one of the most commonly level down courses due to its pace and difficulty, something we work hard to help students avoid. The second semester is notably more rigorous than the first, and a significant portion of the material is tested on the ACT and SAT. This workshop is designed to reinforce foundational skills, introduce advanced concepts, and give students the tools they need to succeed from day one.
It’s also important to note that Honors/TAG Algebra II moves quickly, often starting with a quiz in the first few days of school. Quiz Grades below 70 are not eligible for retakes, so being prepared early on can make a meaningful difference.
